About Sheffield Design Week: Independent Design Magazine
An Independent Design Magazine for Sheffield
Sheffield Design Week is an independent online magazine covering architecture, design, making and creative culture in Sheffield and South Yorkshire. We write about the buildings, studios, galleries and people that shape the city’s creative identity.
What We Cover
Our editorial focus spans four areas:
- Architecture — Sheffield’s built environment, from brutalist landmarks to contemporary regeneration
- Makers — The studios, workshops and craft practitioners keeping Sheffield’s making tradition alive
- Culture — Design thinking, gallery exhibitions and the ideas that drive Sheffield’s creative economy
- City Guides — Practical guides to Sheffield’s museums, galleries, venues and design destinations
We also maintain an archive of Sheffield Design Week festival events from 2013 to 2018, documenting the talks, exhibitions, workshops and screenings that shaped the city’s design calendar.
About James Whitworth
Sheffield Design Week is written and edited by James Whitworth, a Sheffield-based design writer and creative consultant. James studied architecture at Sheffield Hallam University before moving into design writing and editorial work.
Having lived in Sheffield for over a decade, James writes from a position of genuine familiarity with the city’s creative landscape. His writing has been shaped by years of attending exhibitions, visiting studios, talking to makers and walking the city’s streets with an eye on its buildings.
